This also comes with a metal scabbard serial and leather frog. This was made by the State Weapons factory in Steyr (Oesterreichsche Waffenfabrik-Gesellschaft). The Steyr company still makes firearms today. The blade and spine are reversed so the blade edge is on the top. Overall, this bayonet is in Very Good - Very Good Plus condition, considering its age and history. The press catch is functional with average spring tension. Both the pommel and guard are securely fastened to the tang. There is light oxidation on both. The O-ring is securely fastened and swivels freely. The two (2x) rivets securely fasten the wood grip panels. They have light oxidation. The grip panels have light compressions and draglines. The wood has darkened with age. The spine, sides and fullers have scrapes and discoloration. There are no nicks or dings on the blade edge and it appears to have its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a sharp straight point. The blade finish is in the white. The right ricasso is marked "OE/WG". The metal scabbard is in Good - Very Good condition, considering its age and history. The frog stud is securely attached. The mouth, body and finial have impact marks, scrapes and oxidation. The remaining finish has turned to a darker patina color. The frog stud has markings that are too hard to read, they look like a proof mark or a crest. The leather frog is in Good - Very Good condition, considering its age. The belt loop is intact, but the leather is a little bit dried out. There are no rips or tears, the stitching is sewn tightly and there are some light scrapes. Most of the finish still remains. There are no visible markings on the frog. This bayonet, scabbard and frog will be a great addition to your Mannlicher M1888 rifle, or a bayonet collection in general.
