After so many defeats of the Southern patriot armies, this battle changed the British evaluation of the determination and military ability of the Patriot forces; and Lord Cornwallis, the leader of the British Army in the southern states, was forced to retreat further into South Carolina, where he met further defeats by the American forces, finally leading to the surrender of the British army, the end of the American Revolution, and the rise of the United States of America as a force with which to be reckoned.
