It was (I believe) for this edition that William H. Gass's forward (which is not to be missed) was commissioned. You must read this novel--whether you buy this copy or no. Gaddis's book is among the few novels that changed my own literal sensibility... though I spent about six months working through the thing. Sorry to be out of Gaddis's company, I mourned for week or two when I was done. This copy is in very good condition. The rear cover is a bit worn, and the front cover suffered some unhappy folding at the bottom right-hand corner. The interior, though somewhat toned (as is to be expected for a copy of this kind and vintage) is free of underscores, annotations, &c. The binding is firm and the spine is without creases.
