Description: This auction is for a lovely model 1908 Vanguard Railroad grade (G1623) 23 jewel, 16 size pocket watch. What makes this already desirable timepiece extra-special is that it was made specifically for the British Ministry of Defense (1937). This beautifully preserved watch is running nicely and has a clean bill of health from our watchmaker. The crystal is in excellent condition, the face free of cracks and chips and the English made, gold filled, open face watchcase still has it’s color (not polished away). As a British government contract watch, you’ll find that it has a diamond end stone for the balance wheel and a snap on front bezel for the lever set access. The lever set is at the 11 o’clock position, and the front bezel is not threaded, but snap closed as mentioned before. This is a pendant wound timepiece, and the crown has some vertical movement.
