Description: From the brand Spreading Joy Through Nature & Wildlife Our story How we got our start? Wakefield Peanut Company began more than 150 years ago when the first commercial peanut crop in the United States was grown a few miles west of our location. For over 40 years, our family-owned business in Wakefield, Virginia, has produced some of the finest peanuts and animal shelters available. What makes our product unique? All of our animal shelters are hand-crafted using sustainably-grown Eastern White Pine Wood. Eastern White Pine is an ideal material for our houses & feeders because it provides superior insulation during the summer and winter months while remaining light in weight and easy to hang. Why we love what we do? Our passion stems from our upbringing. We are farmers. We are builders. We are wildlife enthusiasts. And we enjoy the simpler things in life. We love animals and we spread happiness. Product Description Easy Open Bottom The Upside-Down Suet Feeder features wire mesh on the bottom for birds to cling to while eating. It holds one suet cake or several pieces of bread for birds to feast on. To open or refill, simply turn the feeder upside-down and slide the wire mesh out for easy access. Why Use a Suet Feeder? Easy to Use - Suet feeders use solid blocks of food such as suet balls, blocks, or cakes, making it easy to reload after the feeder is empty. Stays Where Placed - As opposed to birdseed, suet feed sticks to its form until a bird comes to peck off food to eat. High Energy Food - Suet is a high-energy formulation of animal fat and other ingredients. It is a quick source of heat and energy for birds. Low Maintenance - Due to its solid forms, suet stays in the feeder until it is entirely eaten up. This helps limit clean up from food spills while leaving less of a mess on your property. Angled Roof - Protects the suet from elements in storms while providing a dry place for birds to hang while feeding. Suet Feeder Tips Need tips on hanging your Upside-Down Suet Feeder? Here are a few things we recommend: Hang it from a tree, eave, pole, or other structure in a safe location away from human or predator activity. When hanging your Suet Feeder, make sure it is at least 5 feet above the ground to keep out of reach of dogs or other animals. When cleaning, remove the wire mesh to clean any residue inside the structure. The wire mesh itself can be soaked in hot water with mild soap to loosen food remnants. Try to use only during the winter months for the most attraction. Suet can turn rancid during the summer, dripping fat that can damage natural weatherproofing on bird feathers. Dont get discouraged! It takes time for birds to discover a new feeder. If several weeks pass without any action, consider moving your Suet Feeder to a different location. Attracts upside-down feeding birds such as: Woodpeckers Known for their distinctive drumming, Woodpeckers peck on trees in search of food or to create a nesting site. They also peck in rapid rhythmic successions in order to establish their territory and attract potential mates. Their long beak and equally long tongue make for reaching suet a breeze. Nuthatches Characterized by their large heads, short tails, and powerful bills and feet, nuthatches advertise their territory using loud, simple songs. Most species exhibit grey or bluish upperparts and a black eye stripe. They forage for insects hidden in or under bark by climbing along tree trunks and branches. Why not hang a suet-feeder nearby? Chickadees Chickadees are a tough little bird that do not migrate and weigh less than one-half of an ounce. During cold weather, they have been found to need twenty times more food than they do in summer. Known for their quick movements, Chickadees are known to particularly enjoy eating suet upside-down. Titmice Titmice are very vocal birds and are quick to respond to the sounds of agitation in other birds, coming close to investigate. They store food under bark or under other objects on the ground. Males are dominant over females and they form pairs that persist until one of the mates dies. Titmice often hang upside down and enjoy eating suet the same way.
