Description: As noted in "Condition" above, my late sister owned a crafts and collectibles store called Watermelon Blues in Pittsburgh, PA, and this bowl -- with watermelon slices on as blue background -- couldn't have been a better companion. I've seen an identical one: same slices, same size, same wonderful curvy shape...but theirs is stamped and dated by the ceramic artist Laurie Gates of Los Angeles Potteries in 1972, plus it has a calligraphic black mark. My sister's has a similar black mark but not the stamp. Did she get it directly from the artist? Is it an earlier or later model? I simply don't know, but I don't hesitate a second in assuming it's a Gates. I hope my photos do it justice. It's a wonderful undulating bowl that could probably hold all the slices of a big watermelon or a wicked giant fruit salad, or just about anything. Thanks for looking!Rick
