Description: This is an expressive and beautiful Vintage European POLISH Modern Impressionist Cityscape Painting, Watercolor on Paper, by Polish born French Modernist painter, Edmund Ernest Kosmowski (1900 - 1985.) This artwork depicts a finely rendered Modern Impressionist harbor scene on the coast of Calvados, in Northwestern France, where the artist had settled during the period that this artwork was created. This artwork is rendered in a modernist manner, yet it is highly impressionistic and borrows from the stylistic contributions of the famed French Post-Impressionist painters, such as Pierre Bonnard (1867 - 1947,) whom Kosmowski was a student of. Tall urban high-rise buildings, an abstracted blue sky, and multiple small boats floating on choppy azure waters can be seen in this image. Signed and dated in graphite: "Ernest Kosmowski 1967" in the lower left corner. Approximately 23 3/4 x 27 1/4 inches (including frame.) Actual visible artwork is approximately 14 1/8 x 17 5/8 inches. Good condition for decades of age and storage, with moderate - heavy scuffing, scratches, chipping and edge wear to the original vintage period wood frame (please see photos carefully.) Acquired in Los Angeles County, California. Kosmowski's artistic creations are housed in the permanent collection of the Muzeum Warszawy in Warsaw, Poland, and in numerous private collections worldwide.
