Buchschimd and Gretaux Inlay Marquetry Framed Picture Plaque, Handmade from German Black Forest Wood, Vintage Mid Century Wall Decor In excellent condition this is marquetry framed and handmade and signed by Buchschmid and Gretaux (BG). The wood used by BG is from the Black Forest in Germany, making it not only beautiful but also highly desirable. The wood inlay pictures features the initials BG in the lower corner. Each handcrafted inlaid scene features multiple types of wood to create the contrast in color and figures. The reverse side of the art pieces also have a beautiful piece of stained wood along with a secure triangle hanging hook. According to the Grohmann Museum website, these plaques were created as a tribute to some of the best-known German paintings. This plaque features a pair of musicians sitting at a table in traditional German folk attire. Buchschmid and Gretaux were partners and each one had a specific role in making their marquetry pictures when they began the company in 1910. Gretaux created all the designs for the inlays while Buchschmid was a craftsman who handled the wood veneers and created the art piece.
