Vintage 1981 Iridescent Mt St Helens Ash Art Glass Paperweight Signed Here's some history of Mt. St. Helen's "ash" glass: After the May 1980 eruption of Mt. St Helens, volcano gray dust coated Washington like snow, with ash as much as six inches deep. Northwest glassblower Rob Adamson experimented with the ash, tossing handfuls of the pulverized rock into his furnace that burned as hot as the mountain’s magma interior. The glass he blew was brownish green; on a lark he cut a cylinder into rings and sold them as “ash holes” at his Glass Eye Studio shop in Pike Place Market. The varied items Adamson made from and marketed as Mount St. Helens ash glass sold enough to keep the studio running and historically give him a place among notable Northwest glass pioneers. Weighs 1 lb 2 ounces and is approximately 3.2" W X 2.1" H. Inscribed to the base: Mt. St. Helens Glass 1981". In great condition-no issues to report. Refer to photos.
