This pattern dates from the 1940s and is for four styles of mens slippers originally on a Dolcis slipper sole and gives you the instructions to make slippers to suit size 8-11 feet. Slipper style 1 at the top of the photograph is a crochet pattern, whilst the other three styles are knitted. Regards the yarn used, the pattern states for all styles that "light-weight knitting yarn…(yards per oz given)…..and as thick as a 4-ply fingering wool" be used with styles 3 and 4 using two strands twisted together, so you could try a modern D/K in place of the vintage 4-ply (as vintage yarns were heavier than modern), but work your tension square first and change hook, needle or ply if needed to obtain the tension stipulated in the pattern. Slipper soles with holes ready punched in them are still available and can be found on ebay and other popular websites, you could even with a little imagination make your own. When you receive your pattern, you will see the original creases in the background, but the instructions will be legible.
