Description: The Leaves/Hey Joe b/w Girl From The East/ABC/Dunhill Goldies 45 D-2459 (1970s reissue of the 1966 45) Garage-Rock. This record has been play-graded all the way through, "A" side only, plays well and is VG+ or better. This is a thrash-garage version of of the song Jimi Hendrix made famous. This version pre-dates the Hendrix version. Jimi first recorded Hey Joe in December 1966. Origins of the song are uncertain. Billy Roberts claimed to have written it while in prison in the early 1960s. Dino Valenti of Quicksilver Messenger Service was serving time with Billy Roberts and he is credited as the writer on some recordings, including this one, as "Dino". Folk icon Pete Seeger always claimed that Billy Roberts had borrowed much of it from Niela Horn Miller's song "Baby Don't Go To Town", which she'd been playing for years, but did not record until 1962.
