Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Up for auction is this Somersworth, New Hampshire, Charter #1183, $5.00 1902 Plain Back Large Size National, Fr. #598, with treasury signatures of Judson W. Lyons as Register of the Treasury and Ellis H. Roberts as Treasurer of The United States. This bank chartered in1865. The bank issued 205,312 large size Nationals, from 1865 thru 1929 when the Bureau of Engraving and Printing switched over from printing large size National Bank notes to printing small size. Somersworth was the home to two National Banks from the period of 1865 – 1935, both of these National Banks issued large size National Banknote currency. This bank survived all the way thru until the National Banknote issuing period ended in May of 1935. The note has three rips / splits, two of which go into the portrait area of the note. There is some light gray staining on the upper portion of the note, along with ratty top and bottom margins. There is some overall dirt on both sides of the note, but this is the very least of its problems. The note is in one piece, and basically intact, and would make a great filler for the budget conscious collector. I would grade this note as a Good. Please look at the scans carefully and judge the grade and quality of this note for yourself. The Kelly Census shows 31 large size notes reported on this bank. There are 3 notes from the 1st Charter period, 7 notes from the 2nd Charter period, and 21 notes from the 3rd Charter period. The 21 - 3rd Charter notes break down as follows: 1- $5.00 1902 Red Seal, 1 - $5.00 1902-Date Back ,11 - $5.00 1902 Plain Backs, 4 - $10.00 Plain Backs, 1 - $20.00 1902 Date Back and 3 - $20.00 Plain Backs. This note is already listed in the census. This note would make a fine addition to any New Hampshire State banknote collection. The bank was located in Strafford County. This note should appeal to those collecting that County and its surrounding areas. Don’t let this note get away! I will include free standard shipping in the United States with tracking and insurance.
