Description: Skellimation EarringIn Stock - ships immediately This is the Skellimation Earring made by Alchemy Gothic. The handmade English Pewter earring depicts a 'dancing' skeleton. The skeleton pierced earring is made in three articulated pieces (skull stud, rib cage with arms, and hips with legs) so that the skeleton will seem to 'dance' with each movement of the head. Measuring approximately 1 3/4" long (from skull stud to the bottom of its feet), the Skellimation earring has a surgical steel post and plastic back (see last photo). Symbolism: As a symbol of Time, Change, and Mortality the skull (as well as the skeleton as a whole) is linked to all Chthonic (Underworld) deities. In ancient Greece and Rome, the skull and skeleton were attributed to Kronos/Saturn, the Titan god of Time; and in India, they are attributed to both Shiva and Kali. In esoteric Alchemy, the skeleton (particularly the skull) represents the first stage of the Work called 'nigredo', a state of death and decay (dying to the world) necessary for the Work to begin. Paradoxically, by being so resistant to decay, the skull and skeleton (bones in general) also represent that which survives Death and the possibility of Resurrection, Rebirth, and Life Beyond Death (the ability to transcend Death itself). Handcrafted English Pewter: This earring is handmade in England using the highest quality English Pewter. English Pewter is a lead-free, zinc-free alloy which is valued second only to silver. English Pewter is much harder to craft than the low-grade zinc and lead alloys (which contain a significant amount of toxic impurities) that are still being used in some jewelry manufacture today. Because these earrings are handcrafted and hand-finished, each one is unique; and there are slight variations between individual pieces. Also, slight imperfections in the finished product are normal, expected, and add to the unique handmade character of each piece.
