Assembled from three unrelated Japanese cartoons, it was redubbed and re-edited into a single epic generation-spanning story about Earth fighting against three devastating alien invasions. It was so successful a sequel cartoon titled "Robotech II the Sentinels" was planned but only 90 minutes of original animation was produced before the project collapsed. Leftover scripts were rewritten into novelizations and also comic books. Today Robotech enjoys a renaissance of new animation like the Shadow Chronicles movie, comic books, toys, video and role-playing games and more.
