Description: RHEIMS And The Battles For Its PossessionPublished by Michelin & Cie, France1920Part of the series:MICHELIN ILLUSTRATED GUIDES TO THE BATTLEFIELDS (1914-1918)I am not a dealer, am describing to the best of my ability:From title page:"In memory of the Michelin workmen and employees who died gloriously for their country.” Almost as soon as the Great War ended in November of 1918, visitors began journeying to the various battlefields. Some visited out of curiosity, some to visit the grave of a loved one, or to visit the general area where a loved one fell and whose remains had not been found. The Michelin Tyre Company was one of the first commercial companies that began offering guided tours to the battlefields of France and Belgium, and began publishing guides to them…fascinating pictures of the recently abandoned battlefields with all the debris of warfare still littering the battered shell pocked terrain. This guide starts with the history of Rheims (political and military), has an account of the battles and the bombardment of the city, and a description of life during the war. The bulk of the guide consists of two sections - the first about the city (the cathedral and 2 tour itineraries) and the second about the battlefields including 4 itineraries. There is a 2 page colored map of Rheims inserted between pp 32 & 33. VERY GOOD VINTAGE CONDITIONPlease look at photos carefully as they are part of description. No Dust Jacket.
