Description: Dichroic Starfish Beautiful dichroic lead crystal 4 inch Starfish. The original mold was taken from an actual starfish. The starfish is clear, but when any light is near it, it appears to glow blue from within. The top side looks blue/green and the underside appears red/yellow. The starfish in these photos does not have a light underneath even though it appears to be glowing from inside. It is a very sophisticated type of dichroic film coating ,comprised of precious metals that have been exposed to various levels of electricity, allowing certain wave lengths of light to be reflected while opposite wave lengths of light are transmitted. This technology was first invented for NASA and later applied to art glass. The color changes as the piece is moved in different angles. Displaying this on a dark background enhances the reflective characteristics for this special dichroic property. Photos don't do it justice.
