ORIGINAL WWII BRITISH OR INDIAN MILITARY ISSUE M43 KUKRI GURKHA KNIFE 1944

Description: ORIGINAL WORLD WAR TWO MILITARY ISSUE M43 KUKRI KNIFE. These knives were made famous by their use by the Nepalese Gurkhas. It is apparent that other British & allied soldiers also made use them. I am not an expert on the Kukri knife but this is no doubt an original WWII military issued M43. It was either British or Indian manufactured, I am not sure which. Both sides of the blade show darkened areas of age oxidation. The blade retains its sharp factory edge & has not been sharpened thereafter. One side of the ricasso is marked M43. The wooden grip plates are in good condition showing some wear & age. The steel pommel cap shows rusty oxidation. The blade length (measured along the spine) is 13 1/2 inches. The total knife length is 18 1/4 inches. The scabbard is made of wood with a russet leather cover. The scabbard is marked with the broad arrow & dated CC 1944 W /I\ 23. The leather cover is tight & the stitching is intact. The brass drag is also stapled tight in place. There is some surface cracking to the leather below the ridge on the upper portion of one side - see photos. It appears that this Kukri was either used/taken home by a U.S. serviceman. He wrote his laundry number in pencil M-7081 on one side of the scabbard. This knife is in uncleaned, as found condition. There are many vintage souvenir type & modern made replicas of the Kukri on the market, this one is a guaranteed original WWII military issued M43.
