The instrument lamp cannot be tested, although there is a cord included with three prongs, and it appears that one prong can be plugged into the base of the handle. There is noticeable dust/debris on the head on the viewing area where the numbers appear which wasn't removable when applying a soft cloth, but the number is still legible through the glass.
