I suggest the following for safety 1. Use a large or medium size box (no small box please) 2. Obtain sheets of styrofoam (insulation type) 3. Trace the inside of your cardboard box onto styrofoam sheet with a marker 4. Use a utility knife or blade to cut out 5. Repeat until you have a stack of styrofoam sheets to fully fill your box 6. Trace your scanner and feeder onto the styroam sheet and repeat for all but the top and bottom sheet 7. Cut out your scanner and feeder "pockets" for a good form-fit styrofoam surround. Issues solved or reduced by this maintenance a. Haze or fuzzy murky images b. Noise (lack of lubrication) c. A few types of errors caused by dirty sensors d. For those scanners with feeders (intermitant jams or failure to feed or multi-feeds) e. Worried owner about the quality of scans f. Blue scans are caused by thick heavy dust on the mirror g.
