Description: I have for sale an 1892 medal from New York City that commemorates the 400th anniversary of the discovery of American by Christopher Columbus. This medal was issued during Columbus Week in N.Y.C. that began on October 8. This medal is listed in the Eglit catalog as #221. The medal is made of white metal, it is 1 1/2 inch in diameter and in a very high grade uncirculated condition, but it does have one tiny spot on the obverse, that is not easy to see in the photos. On the obverse in the center there is a battleship with the Statue of Liberty in the background. In the foreground to the left, a British sailor standing at attention, and to the right, a soldier holding a rifle. On the reverse there is a Columbus landing scene and at the rim it reads COLUMBUS DISCOVERING AMERICA - 1492. The uncirculated ribbon attached to the medal is red, white and blue with gold letters. In the center it shows a gold bust of Columbus, and the ribbon reads 400TH ANNIVERSARY - DISCOVERY OF AMERICA - NEW YORK - 1492-1892. The top pinback bar shows an eagle. The ribbon and medal together are four inches long. Please see over 950 more collectibles for sale in my EBAY STORE at TE Collectables. (19,448 TTRD)
