May, 1917 Loyalty Parade with 48-Star Flag; In Support of Troops Newly Overseas

Description: This is an RPPC mailed to Red Wing, MN on May 22, 1917, only a month after the U.S. entered World War I. Depicted is what the writer calls a "Loyalty Parade, which refers to the emphasis at the time on loyalty to the United States and its allies in the war. The U.S. government was particularly concerned about loyalty among its citizens because of the diverse ethnic makeup of the country, including recent immigrants from countries the U.S. was now fighting against in WWI. This is a Real Photo Postcard (RPPC), a very popular item in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. Taken with a person’s own camera, or by a traveling photographer, the image would then be printed on card stock with a postcard format on the back, which could then be mailed. These pictures are highly collectible because they are one of a kind and tend to be more candid and more often located outdoors at a time when most photographs were still taken in studio. ** For combined shipping on multiple items purchased, please send a request for an INVOICE when you've finished buying.
