A list of 74 main streets, churchs, palaces and monuments are written around the map. This makes it possible to identify locations engraved with numbers indicated on the map. Edme Mentelle is a French geographer. He is the author of a large number of works, several of which have been very successful and a universal Atlas composed of 170 maps. In 1786, with Jean Tobie Mercklein, for the eldest son of Louis XVI, he created a composite globe, even «trundle», comprising three elements: its external face represents the earthly globe; its internal face, the celestial vault. Inside, a ball figures the depths of the seas. It is exhibited in the apartments of the dauphin at the Palace of Versailles.
