Description: This is one of the post-George Macy LECs of which the founder would have doubtlessly approved: the coupling of Aeschylus' classic play (in a fine modern translation by Rex Warner) with Shelley's verse drama which makes Prometheus the revolutionist's ideal hero, with its stirring conclusion: "To suffer woes which hope thinks infinite,To forgive wrongs darker than death or night,To defy power which seems omnipotent... Neither to change, nor falter, nor repent:This ... is to beGood, great and joyous, beautiful and free,This is alone Life, Joy, Empire and Victory." In addition to the stellar production by Joh. Enschedé en Zonen in Haarlem, Holland, both works are illustrated by the great John Farleigh. (Although my Limited Editions Club template has "signed by illustrator" always checked, this is one of those unhappy circumstances when the artist died --March 30, 1965 before he could sign the colophon; I have corrected this listing to reflect this.) With the exception of a slight yellowing of the spine, the book is pristine; the slipcase is sound and would be Near Fine except for a damp stain on the back, which doesn't affect the book itself.
