Description: I have for sale a ribbon for the 1942 50th annual convention of the Ladies of the Grand Army Of The Republic, Department of Massachusetts. The L. of G.A.R. is a congressionally chartered non-profit organization, and is the oldest women's hereditary organization in the U.S. The original objectives of the organization included promotion of patriotism and loyalty to the Union and participation in community service, especially for the aid of our veterans and their dependents. Their objectives today are still the same, with great emphasis on promotion of patriotism, education and preservation of history. This gold and black ribbon is six inches long and looks to be in original condition but it is frayed at the ends and folded at the bottom. On the ribbon it reads DEPARTMENT - OF MASS. - LADIES OF THE - G.A.R. - 50TH - ANNUAL CONVENTION - BOSTON - APRIL 7-8, 1942. In the center of the ribbon it has a G.A.R. symbol.
