The "scarf" cannot be detached. When I wore it, I would tie the scarf ends into knots. I’m sure there are other ways to wear it, but I only wore it a couple of times and did not do much experimenting. I bought it because it would cover my shoulders which was required when going into some churches in Italy. It also has two side-seam pockets. It is in excellent pre-owned condition.
