"Verses on the Death of Doctor Swift" is 13.5 x 9 inches (34.3 x 22.8 cm), good condition, disbound, left side with recent silk stitching, contents good to very good, faint tidemark of old dampstain to upper right of some of the pages, short old ink note at the bottom of p. 6 -- we can make out "Mr. Galatin" and "Avondale." (2) 18 pp, complete. Housed in old, possibly original marbled wraps, folded loosely and not attached, shorter than the book. "The Life and Character of Doctor Swift" is 13.5 x 8.8 inches (34.3 x 22 cm), bound in old, possibly original marbled wraps, and is in very good condition with faint dampstaining tidemark to top 2 inches of the title page and next two leaves (dedication pages), but the pages with the poem are largely free of dampstaining. With half title, title, dedication pages and text of poem, complete: (9) 10-19 (1) pp. Both housed in old red cloth portfolio (early 20th century) with some wear, stains and discoloration). This poem is attributed to Swift, who disavowed it, and is still open to debate. See Teerink-Scouten 727 & 771. Good.
