Description: Jennings Brothers Art Nouveau Deco Antique Jewelry Casket Trinket Box 5 1/4" wide x 2 7/8" deep x 4" tall The glue that holds the red velvet inside has places that need to be reglued. The red velvet does show wear but is good for the age of the item. Some tarnish around the hinges. The item is painted and has some chips to the paint, but I don't know if this is the original paint or if it was painted originally at all. Please see pictures for details. Condition is "Used". The firm was founded in 1890 in Bridgeport (Conn.) as manufacturer of jewelry boxes, candelabra, clocks, bookends, statues and silverplate flatware. In 1906 a salesroom was opened in New York. Jennings produced a large variety of items made in "ormolu" (trademark J.B. 'Ormolu Gold') and bronze ('Nouveau Bronze'). In the 1890's/1900's the firm patented various design in 'Art Nouveau' style for clock cases and candelabra bases. Jennings Bros. Mfg Co production is marked J.B. accompanied by a factory or catalog number (3 or 4 digits). In some cases the item is marked "Trademark J.B. Signifies the Best".
