Description: This Hobo Diary was Handwritten in 1932. It is a Journal of Tramps & Train Travel. Includes Ephemera: Letters, Notes. Book is 10”x8” * About 50+- pages of the Compositions’ approx 140 book pages are filled with journal entries or other writings. Many pages are blank. * Most entries were evidently made while the author traveled across the US from NY to CA, mostly traveling by freight train or hitchhiking. * Some entries MAY be recordings of memories of the trip written at a later date. * During the trip, author slept in barns and along side the road, among other places. * He ate what he could get, often just bread and water. * He dreamed and reminisced often of seeing his beloved Juliet again soon. * Includes lots of descriptions about his fellow “bums” and others. * Some pages of the diary may have been removed at front and back of book at an early unknown date. * The letters included in the book were mostly ones written to him c/o general delivery. First letter dates 1929 and last in 1934. * Author of the diary is listed as Theodore “Ted” “Teddy” B. Freese. Diary is in decent condition. Some flaking, mostly at spine. Pages intact but weak at spine with some separation. Some pages have been discolored by items placed within, I.e. pressed flower, yellowed note paper.
