About the Author- About The Editor: Sir James Macnabb Campbell (1846–1903) was a Scottish administrator in British India, prominent in British Bombay's intellectual circles during the 1890s. Educated at Glasgow Academy and University, he joined the Indian Civil Service in 1869. Campbell held various roles, including collector of land revenue and customs, and played a pivotal role in combating the third plague pandemic in Bombay. In June 1873 Campbell was asked to take on the compilation of the Gazetteer of the Bombay Presidency. He completed the extensive Bombay Gazetteer and contributed to Indian history and folklore studies. Campbell passed away in 1903, leaving a lasting legacy in Indian ethnology and administration.
