Description: The following item is an authentic signed Gettysburg National Bank check signed by Gettysburg Resident Francis James Rosensteel of the Gettysburg Rosensteels. Also known as "Frank", he was 19 when he enlisted in Company "G" of the 165th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He served from December of 1862 to the end of July 1863 when the unit mustered out. He was also one of the older family members of The Rosensteel Family of Gettysburg who lived on The Round Tops. There they had a museum of items from The Battle of Gettysburg. The Rosensteel Collection is one of the oldest known collections of Gettysburg Artifacts. This check is in very good condition and is made out to F.J. Rosensteel by David Kendlehart. Kendlehart was the Gettysburg Borough President and was the first citizen to meet with Confederate General Jubal Early to hear his demands on Day 1 of the Battle of Gettysburg. Frank Rosensteel endorsed the check in dark period ink on the reverse. The cancellation cut does not interfere with the signature. This is perhaps the only F.J. Rosensteel signature that you will ever come across. His signature is extremely rare. A great collectible from a member of the famed Rosensteel's of Gettysburg and a member of the 165th Penn. Vol. Inf. during The civil War.
