Description: For your inspection is this replica Flat Finger Paddle for older Vibroplex Semi-Automatic Telegraph Keys or "Bugs". The finger paddle is keystone shaped. I believe Vibroplex changed to the current oval style sometime in the 1950s. So if you have an older "bug" from the 1930s or 1940s with a broken, missing or poorly made replacement finger paddle, then this is for you. The photos show the replica mounted on a pre-1950 Vibroplex J-36. This piece is crafted from solid black acrylic of similar thickness to the original paddle. It is hand worked to give a vintage appearance. Both sides of the paddle are smooth with a satin finish. It can also be supplied high gloss if requested. The inside hole has been tapped 8-32 by hand to accommodate the original knob. I do this by continuing the existing thread (photo #3). A blue dot will indicate which side of the paddle should lie against the left side of the lever so the threads line up correctly. Since it is hand made using modern materials, it won't be an absolutely perfect copy of the original. The dimensions are close and the appearance matches very well in combination with the original knob. It is as faithful a reproduction that I can make using the shop resources available to me.
