Description: Charles Bragg (1931 – 2017, USA) - "The Garden of Eden" (1993) is a comical print depicting God (Bragg) overseeing the Garden of Eden with Eve and Adam (Bragg.) Charles Bragg was an American artist and author, and one of the art world’s best-known satirists. His works often feature celebrities or ordinary people depicted in a humorous—and sometimes macabre fashion—across his sculptures, stories, prints, and paintings. Bragg used humor and his own political opinions to create thought-provoking paintings. The humor in his artwork is attributed to his years of doing stand-up comedy before becoming an artist. Charles Bragg's prints and portraiture bring the undesirable qualities of American society to life; these commentary pieces on human vices are what brought his success as an artist. Artist Charles Bragg's lithograph, "The Screen Goddess," was displayed in the opening scene of the 1992 movie The Player. His work is found in the collections of at least 20 international museums, including the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C., the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and the Pushkin Museum in Moscow. PBS made a documentary about him called “Charles Bragg — One of a Kind.” He published a book on his work, “Charles Bragg: The Works! A Retrospective.” He won numerous awards, including the Gold Medal for the National Society of Illustrators as well as the Award of Merit from the Art Directors Guild of New York.
