Description: This listing is for a Buescher Big B (Aristocrat Series II) alto saxophone. This is an excellent instrument for the professional or anyone wanting a fine alto saxophone. It has a beautiful, sweet tone and is easy to play. Buescher made great saxophones. This saxophone has been well cared for by me and by the previous owner. It's in perfect adjustment and plays perfectly from top to bottom. It has no dents. The excellent lacquer is original and is the beautiful dark gold color that Buescher used on its Aristocrat Saxophones from the mid ‘30’s to mid ‘50’s. The pads are mostly original and all of the original snap-in resonators are intact. When I got the saxophone ten years ago, I had three pads replaced, high F, side C, and low D#/Eb. The other pads are good and have some lacquer spray-over that I've only seen on factory pads. The original Norton springs are intact and work wonderfully. I've played this instrument a fair amount in concert band, jazz/dance band, theater. I'm a doubler on all woodwinds, so I play a lot, but not all of my time has been playing this saxophone. It has been easy to play and I have been very happy with its tone, intonation, and overall playability. Serial number is 313656. The chart that I consulted showed it as being made in 1948, but there is an original packing list for this dating from July, 1947. I've included it in the listing. The listing includes the saxophone, original neck marked "01", mouthpiece (possibly the original), new neck strap, and marching band lyre. (I don't think this instrument was ever used outdoors in a marching band, though.) I'm also including the original pamphlets from Buescher and some old reeds that came with it when I bought it. I just found them interesting. The mouthpiece is in great shape and plays really well on this saxophone. It's hard rubber and has faded a little, showing that it was played a bit. I used it occasionally, and I think this is the mouthpiece that the previous owner used. It might be the original, but it doesn't say "Buescher" on it. It has a large round chamber like the vintage Buescher mouthpieces. The case is original and is in very good condition. This is a great saxophone made by Buescher that had a great reputation for their quality and high artistic level. You can't go wrong with this horn!
