He made his debut with La Scala in Milan in 1978, singing the title role in Berlioz's La damnation de Faust. In New York, Burrows worked with Sir Georg Solti, Zubin Mehta, Seiji Ozawa, Leonard Bernstein, and Eugene Ormandy, among others, at Carnegie Hall. He has also appeared in significant roles at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City and collaborated with several other orchestral organizations, including the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, the Boston Symphony, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also had several professional performances in the rarefied altitudes of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Some of his performances include Don Giovanni in Brussels and at the San Diego Opera, Madam Butterfly in Vienna, Faust in Milan, L'elisir d'amore and The Magic Flute in San Francisco, Die Entführung aus dem Serail at the Paris Opéra; Tales of Hoffmann at the Theatre Cologne and the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Belgium, the Mozart Requiem at the Cardiff Festival of Choirs in Wales. Burrows performed many times with the Royal Opera, including roles in Don Pasquale, Maria Stuarda, and La sonnambula, and touring Japan and the USA.
