Description: For auction is a very rare and hard to find paperclip or pin box made by Apollo Studios, New York. This box is part of a desk set pattern called "Clematis/Poinsettia". It was made to compete with the Tiffany Studios desk set items that were made in a similar fashion. This box measures 2 5/8" square outside feet measurement, and is 1 1/2" tall. The box itself is 2 1/4" square. This box displays a small square shape with green stained opalescent glass for the sides. The sides are further embellish with a Clematis/Poinsettia overlay pattern and is further decorated with a beaded border along the top and bottom. The bottom of the box is metal. This box sits on 4 flat bun style feet.This box is considered to be in excellent condition. There are no dents to the metal and the stained glass has no cracks or issues. The patina on the box shows minor wear and fading. This is typical of normal age wear. This box is signed on the underside bottom with the impressed micro "Apollo Studios New York" mark along with the shape or pattern number "162".I would say based on the mark on the bottom portion rate table this piece was made circa 1899-1902. I cannot overstate how rare this item is. I have been in the trade some 50 years and have only seen 1 other Apollo postage scale in that time and it was pretty beat up. The quality level of this is almost as good as the day it was made. This is a must for that advanced Apollo Studios desk set collector. Crescent made the postage scale frames for Tiffany Studios, New York as well and they sell foe 2 times theprice of Apollo's. PLEASE READ BELOW I want to apologize for slowing down my shipping time. This is an increase of 9.45% on the sales tax portion. They are now making a profit on the sales tax and treating it as a sale which in my eyes is wrong!! They did the same on the shipping charges several years ago. They use to not charge anything and now they are charging 12.35% commission on shipping as well. This has raised the cost to ship items to you, the buyer which is factored into my shipping charges. If you feel what Ebay is doing is wrong or you don't agree them please contact Ebay and voice your opinion. Maybe if enough of you do this, they will change their policy.
