Description: Antique mid to late 1800s German Fairing Pink Pigs Two Pigs in a Purse Highly Collectible !!!!!!! 4 3/16" long, 2 5/8" wide, 2 3/4" high As Is.....see condition discription $79.95 !!!!! Condition: At first glance, this little pig appears to be in excellent condition but when you look carefully at it under magnification you can see that the large pig's right ear shows a crack and has probably been broken off and glued back on. Whoever did the repair did a very fine job. These little guys are anywhere from 120 to 180 years old (although I lean towards the smaller number) and it is very hard to find a fairing in perfect condition. There may always be small manufacturer's defects or microscopic blemishes or flaws consistent with age and use which is to be expected in antique and vintage items. Rest assured that any major issues will always be both documented and photographed to the best of my ability. Be sure and check the photos as they are an integral part of the description and do a much better job of showing condition issues than what I can explain through the use of the written word. Use the magnification tool and feel free to ask questions. I may have more photos available and can always take more so ask for specific views if you want to see things I may not be showing to your satisfaction. Condition Discription Continued: When you look at the bottom of the purse you will see the beginnings of a light stress crack coming out of the corner....see picture 9. Also, please notice the little bumps of stuck on bits of porcelain around the bottom edges. These pieces were dry footed...by that, I mean that glaze was not painted onto the bottom and any glaze that leaked onto the bottom from the glazing on the sides, would be wiped off. In photo 8 especially you can see the change in color and texture from the matt white in the center to the darker sections around the outer parts of the bottom. If you look carefully you can see the sponge marks left from trying to get all of the glaze off the bottom, but they did not quite succeed. The remnants of glaze on the bottom are sticky while the piece is being fired so random chips left on the shelf from previous firings and a poor cleaning job of the shelf itself, stuck to the bottom of the purse and some of those chips also stuck to the shelf. When the purse was pried off of the shelf after it cooled, something had to give, and in some cases the chips remained stuck to the bottom of the purse, while in other cases, the chips pulled off of the bottom of the purse and remained stuck to the shelf, thus creating the many pockets that you see on the bottom of this piece....reference photos 7-9. These and the crack I told you about are manufacture's flaws and should not detract from the value of the piece. The gold trim on this piece is mostly worn away and the green should be much darker on the purse area. Photo 10 also shows what might be another stress crack. If you follow the outer line of the nose side of the nearer pig down onto the purse you will see another light stress crack that curves into the contours of the purse and down a little ways. Stress cracks occur when the piece is left in the mold too long after it has been poured and as it shrinks away from the mold, sometimes the contours of the mold won't allow proper shrinkage. I worked in the ceramics industry for over 10 years and saw many of these that would happen when I left my own pieces in their molds for too long. A History: Just what are German Fairing pieces? Country fairs were all the rage in the mid to late 1800s in Germany and little porcelain trinkets were won at the various games of skill or chance at those fairs. Many of them can be quite detailed. These little pink pigs are some of the simpler examples and have become quite popular amongst collectors. Hundreds of different examples of these pigs can be found and so it is hard to find the exact piece that one might have for a price comparison. My beginning auction price is based on the results of studying hundreds of final sale prices of these pieces. Measurements: 4 3/16" long, 2 5/8" wide, 2 3/4" high 1225-04 to 1232-41 (09-2020) 2744 Bx 28 Disclaimer: Photographs showing the item next to a ruler or tape measure are there to show scale only and usually will not show exact measurements due to the fact that there is usually a perspective issue. Please always go by my stated measurements rather than guessing at the exact sized based on the photos. Note: Because of the way computers and cell phones are set to interpret colors that show on their monitors, and because of people's perceptions of color descriptions, the colors you see on your screen may not be exactly the colors you will get but might appear a bit darker or lighter, or a shade or two different. I always domy best to show colors as close to reality as I can get them but keep that in mind when you make your orders as, although I will accept returns for any reason, I WILL NOT accept a small difference in color shades as a valid reason for a 'not as described' claim so that you can save on shipping. Of course, if I say that something is black and it turns out to be red when you get it, then obviously the fault is mine and the 'not as described' claim will be accepted. Shipping window changes: I am an old lady who lives quite a way out in the country. I also have chronic pain syndrome. I choose a longer shipping window so that I can choose the best weather days, and best health days to make the trip into town where I run as many errands as I can including mailing your packages. It is important that if you do need your item in a hurry for a birthday or special occasion, that you let me know and I will be happy to do my best for you.
