ITEM DESCRIPTION: Here is an Absolutely Beautiful & Rare Mid Century Circa 1950’s SIGNED Limited Edition (Ed. 55) Serigraph Print of a Male Figure from the Dark Ages titled “Medieval Man”, by the well known listed painter, serigrapher & ceramicist ‘Ann Cochran Heinz-Gorman’ (American, Aug. 21, 1910-Oct. 2, 1966), whose signature appears hand-written in pencil lower right in the outer margin corner, and whose printed signature appears lower right in the image corner. We currently have other rare vintage serigraphs by Ann Cochran listed, including the mate to this serigraph “Medieval Lady”, so please have a look! Ann was the twin sister of the other well known landscape & floral artist ‘Alice Cochran Delmar’ (Aug. 21, 1910-March 4, 2000), and for a time they were also ballerinas who danced at the Metropolitan Opera Ballet Company in New York for ten years (her death date is sometimes listed incorrectly as 1968) and Ann was once married to James Rae. An old newspaper article had some nice biographical background on Ann from a September 17, 1947 article in the The Journal News (White Plains, New York) which stated: Ann Cochran Rae, whose large flower paintings in the Foundation show draw a great deal of attention, is pre-eminent in the field of popular art. Her paintings are sold in New York by George Jensen, W. and J. Sloane, and R. H. Macy & Co., one reproduction alone having sold more than 25,000 copies. Mrs. Rae’s husband, an amateur gardener, raises the flowers in their Grand View garden which she uses in her striking and popular paintings. A ballet dancer by profession, Mrs. Rae took up painting some six years ago because, "…it was the one thing I could combine with the profession of housewife… My friends assured me I'd starve,” she said today, “but on the contrary, I sold my fourth painting and every painting I have done since.” She has sold 300 paintings in the last four years. She studied at the Grand Central School of Art and is a member of the Association of American Artists. Her paintings are currently on view In New York at the Butler and Ward Eggleston Galleries. Before taking up painting Mrs. Ran was a member of the ballet corps of the Metropolitan Opera Company for ten years, working there under the direction of the premiere ballerina, Rosina Galli. With her twin sister, who is now the wife of radio-famous Kenny Delmar, she also danced In Broadway musicals. The title & edition number ‘Medieval Man – Ed. 55’ appears hand-written in pencil as well, lower left in the outer margin corner. The Serigraph is on a nice heavier-weight ivory-colored wove paper stock and also features gold metallic ink for highlights. The Serigraph is in Excellent Rare+ condition for its vintage age with absolutely no color fade at all on this beautiful piece. The Serigraph has been tucked away in one of our archive drawers amongst other prints & lithos since it was purchased by the Meibohm family and hasn’t seen the light-of-day in all this time—it’s as beautiful as the day it was printed and is as ‘Mint’ as any collector could hope to find in its original never-framed condition. The size with small margins is 46” x 15”, Image size is about 43-7/8” x 14”. No tears and no foxing evident. Extremely minimal slight & small crescent-creases here & there in the image area which aren’t even noticeable at all (except from behind) and aren’t even really worth mentioning. Other extremely minimal slight creasing here & there in the outer margin areas and a few small creases in a few outer margin corners with some associated tiny dog-ear creases, which are completely negligible since the outer margins can easily be matted & framed out. Extremely minimal slight outer margin edge wear with a few dents & dings here & there—also negligible. Minimal/negligible slight toning of the stock from age which isn’t really noticeable at all amidst the ivory color of the paper itself. This vintage serigraph has never been framed which is always more desirable to collectors since it has never been exposed to older non-archival materials, matburn or lightfade. Simply Beautiful!!! EMAILING US: eBayers, at all costs, please use eBay's email system only (no outside email addresses) to contact us with any questions you may have. eBay's email system GUARANTEES we get your email and more importantly, that you get ours. A lot of servers in the last few years have started using newer SPAM filters, and there have been a lot of problems with GOOD emails not getting through correctly, and being returned as undeliverable. We have had numerous problems in the past communicating with our eBayers outside of eBay because of it. COLLECTORS & DEALERS: Please DO NOT email us (inside or outside of eBay's email system) with any offers to stop an auction early. It would not be fair to the rest of the eBay Worldwide community if we did that. THE HIGHEST BIDDER -OR- HIGHEST OFFER WINS IT!!!!!
