Description: Andre Beyle Surrealist Ink and Watercolor Painting Signed 1953 Framed Andre Beyle Surrealist Ink and Watercolor Painting Signed 1953 Framed Click images to enlarge Description Andre Beyle, original mixed media (ink and watercolor) painting, signed and dated 1953 in the lower right corner, 16 1/2 by 11 1/2 inches, matted in a 25 by 21 inch frame, in excellent condition in a very good frame that shows wear from age. (The painting has not been examined outside the frame.) The painting appears to show an imaginary Middle East scene that the viewer can choose to see whatever he or she pleases. The design looks to me like several Dali-like characters interacting with a flexible wall in an expansive setting. Andre Beyle is a fascinating artist. In a 2009 Bonham's auction, there was an item with four paintings, some signed by Beyle and some by the well-known Los Angeles art dealer and author Ernest Raboff. Why the artist used separate names on his works is unknown. Raboff established his La Cienega art gallery in 1954 so I am not sure where he was in 1953 when he painted this one. As a gallery owner, he promoted young European and local Los Angeles artists as well as Pre-Columbian and African art. Condition: Used Condition Notes: The painting is in excellent condition.
