Description: A very large Moorcroft Macintyre & Co pot pourri and lid, c.1904-1913This product data sheet is originally written in English.A superb Macintyre & Co Florian ware 'poppy' pot pourri and lid designed by William Moorcroft in the early 1900s. The piece of waisted circular form, pierced lid painted with salmon ochre and poppies. Beautiful bowl with poppy pattern in an Alhambra colour, leaves on a deep blue and gold ground. The piece is richly decorated with burnished gold. Note the unusually large size of the pot pourri, which makes it unique in its kind.Macintyre & Co is the manufacturer at Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, England, was predominantly manufacturer of industrial ceramics. In order to capitalize on the popular souvenir market they had started to produce crested ware. Around 1894 the opened an art pottery studio, employing established designers who introduced Faience ware incorporating raised slip and tube lined designs. In 1897 Macintyre & Co. Ltd employed the 26 year old William Moorcroft as a designer, and within a year he was put in full charge of the company's art pottery studio as Chief Designer. By happy coincidence for Moorcroft the senior designer, Harry Barnard, left Macintyre in 1897 to design for Wedgwood. The following year Moorcroft was put in full charge of the company's art pottery studio as Chief Designer. Mr. Moorcroft for many years had the sole control of that branch, and has been responsible for many unique artistic productions, for which Macintyre & Co., Ltd., is now so well known. "Moorcroft Faience" is highly appreciated in the trade. Moorcroft designed ware won a number of medals at international fairs and was distributed by Liberty in London and Tiffany in New York. In 1913 William Moorcroft left Macintyre & Co. and set up his own manufacturing company in Sandbach Road, Cobridge, Burslem. The work that Moorcroft has done for Macintyre is in the highest price segment of all Macintyre products. These are collectors' items that are hunted by thousands of people.
