Description: 2LB Opalized Petrified Wood Rough From Blue Mountains, OR #554. Dug by locals this is a very stable stone, although there is some crazing in the hydroplane on some edges. This piece is made up of 4 types of opal...Green Hydrophane which is naturally cracked and weak on the wheel, white common which holds up well to shaping, the brown sections are true wood preservation which makes those zones the hardest, and orange/red opal which transluces with the beautiful fire of fire opal, but is not technically and slightly crazed. Certain zones in these materials may require stabilization before working fyi, but the brown sections are hardest AND they glow orange. This material is gem quality and a terrific example of both Silicate Mineral Replacement and true preservation all in one piece. The orange opal seems to occur beneath the bark. Would be perfect for either display or lapidary working! Many Blessings and as always, thanks for viewing Tom Molinari Owner/CEO Oregon Grown Gemstones
