23" Artisan Made, Cudgel, Aboriginal Inspired, Boom, Primitive Weapon

Description: Roscoe's Stix Shillelaghs, Walking Stick, Staffs, and Primitive Weapons Each of Roscoe's Stix starts off as a branch of a tree. It is air-dried for months, carefully sanded, and carved to perfection using hand tools. It is adorned with precision using mostly natural products, and it is finished with top-quality stains and finishes. Roscoe is a hobby crafter. He works a full-time job often into overtime and comes home to spend his remaining daylight crafting. Each of these sticks is handcrafted by one human. None will be perfect, but all will be beautiful, unique, one-of-a-kind items. Many will be signed and numbered. Please refer to the pictures for your best description. Roscoe has been recently chosen to have his work displayed in the National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame His atlatl and darts will be on display in the spear point exhibition to highlight their implementation. Roscoe is very proud of this accomplishment and can't wait to share it with you! When the exhibit is finished, he will let you know! Artist Statement: “Roscoe” Barrett, “Roscoe’s Stix,” "I've always known how to shape wood, create pitch, preserve sinew, sharpen and harden metal, chip flint, and so on. I don't believe I was ever taught directly by anyone. These are lessons I learned from my upbringing as a poor child in the Virginian hills. Before I can remember, I used to gather sticks and other odd wood fragments from the ground and combine them with a piece of scrap metal to make some sort of weapon that my dad would eventually discover protruding from a tree on our property." Roscoe is a US-based craftsman. Originally from the Virginia hills, he currently resides in rural Florida. Standing on a long heritage of using what is easily available to him at the moment, he combines traditional techniques with wood, stone, and contemporary repurposed materials to craft tools and weapons.“There is so much that history can teach, and by studying the traditional cultural crafts of people all over the world, I've been able to hone my own art and reach a degree of fulfillment and satisfaction that I haven't been able to find in modern construction using modern techniques.”The fundamental skills that brought humanity into the modern era are slowly being lost as technology evolves. What if technology stopped working? How many of us would be able to use the resources at our disposal to carry out the actions necessary for our survival? In a world dominated by consumerism and computer technology, Roscoe desires to get back to the basics, and remember where we all began. When things were simpler and we didn't prepare years ahead of time—rather, we lived each day to survive the next. He believes we can learn to be better people from those who came before us. When we put ourselves on equal ground with nature and embrace our own primordial instincts, these primitive tools and weapons become an extension of our own bodies. We become art in motion… Handled Boom This club is a gorgeous addition to Roscoe's Collection. Inspired by the aboriginal od Australia, the shape of this club is curved like the traditional No7 shaped or "hooked" Boom. However it is thicker, heavier, and not meant to fly, rather it has a 5" long handle wrapped in embossed leather. there is a pummel at the bottom of the handle, making both forward and backward swings productive. The edge of the curved end is sharpened wood, as Roscoe created a fine edge by sanding endlessly on this dense wood. The piece was taken from the crotch of the tree, and the curve follows the natural grain of the wood. This piece of wood was very old, aged to perfection, and dense, making this an ideal piece of wood for weaponry. Roscoe took advantage of the natural crotch of this ancient wood, and let the piece choose its own life. This will be around a thousand years from now. The piece is sealed with a high grade epoxy resin, and it has a beautiful glassy shine. Any natural hollows in the wood have been backfilled with epoxy resin and carefully shaped and sanded to match the wood seamlessly. This piece is a true work of art. It is 23" from pummel to the top of the curve, and the curve is another 6" from the top to the tip. It is 4" wide on the flat side of the club at the bottom, or on top of the handle, and it regressively gets smaller toward the tip all the way up the curve. The handle is about 2 " in diameter, and the pummel is 1.5" long and 2.5" in diameter. This would be a great piece for costume, but make no mistake, it is built to use. It is no toy! This stick is a straight up head bashing tool made for personal protection and is the perfect piece to keep beside the front door or beside the bed. This is a playful, whimsical piece that will look good in any man cave, on any wall, and it will complement a number of cultured themes. It can be used in real life scenarios or in cosplay as a part of a costume. It is a real weapon, however, and can be used to remove hoodlums!...or whatever. It is not a toy! We have many Primitive Weapons Shillelaghs, Walking Sticks, and Staffs listed, with new listings going up weekly. Make sure to check back! Payment We use eBay Payment Management System Shipping eBay has changed shipping rules over and over... I recently came back to check my listings and realized the outrageous rates the automated service is asking from my patrons for shipping. I have adjusted the price/service to make them as low as possible. If your shipping rate is crazy, please, ask me about it! I will be transparent and adjust your shipping if possible, and/or I will return to you any shipping money that is not used in mailing your item. All overages you pay in shipping will be returned to you. Handling We reserve 5 business days to handle your item and prepare it for shipping. Sometimes we refinish an item right before we ship it out if we feel it needs it. we do shows, so many times these items get boxed up and shipped around as we travel, and they need a touch up before they are mailed. Roscoe does not like to send out an item he does not feel proud of. We really want you to love your stix as much as he does. We craft our own boxes! It is a way to save both you and us money! Don't be surprised by your frankenbox! We work hard to get it right and make sure your stick arrives undamaged. Sometimes the box is "not pretty," depending on the tools we have at the time, but it will always be safe harbor for your treasure to travel in! Returns Roscoe does not accept returns. Please make sure you read the description and study the pictures of the item you are bidding on. The only time we would accept a return is if we were at fault and sent you the wrong item. Other than that, our sticks are far below the market price, and with the amount of work he puts into his hobby, there should be no need for a return. You don't accidentally go looking for a walking stick or shillelagh, and you wont find more for your money. Cancellations We are a working class family. We get it...Life happens! If you had something come up, and you can no longer afford your purchase, message us. We will either cancel your purchase, or we can work with you to give you more time to come up with the cash. However, don't abuse this policy! Your bid is a legal contract to purchase. If we let you out of this contract, it's because we are decent folks who understands the value of a dollar. Special Orders! YES! Roscoe can accommodate your special orders! If you have something in mind, send him a message. If he can create it, he will. We don't accept returns, so we will require no deposit, but we reserve the right to sell your creation on the open market if you back out. Once the stick is completed, you will be notified, and a special private listing will be created for you to purchase your treasure. Other... Roscoe works hard on these sticks. This is a hobby craft for him. He also works a full-time job with overtime. Crafting these sticks is what he does in his evenings and on his weekend off days. Please understand if he can not respond to you immediately... chances are he is at work. This is something all people should understand.
