The proof coin capsule has an eyelet so that the coin can be used as an ornament and be hung on the Christmas tree. Integrating a design that is both slightly concave and borderless on the obverse, this emphasises the depth of the strike and appearance of a sculpture of the holy family, who are depicted and centred. Accenting the design are representations of the story of the nativity such as the North Star, animals in the manger, the angel who appeared to shepherds taking care of their flocks, and the three wise men who sought out the Christ Child to offer him traditional gifts of frankincense, myrrh, and gold. Below the completed design is the inscription along the edge, GEBURT CHRISTI (“the birth of Christ”). The reverse has the German eagle, the words “BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND”, the value and denomination, the letter “J” for the Hamburg Mint, the year 2021, and the twelve stars of Europe.
