The work that compelled Dr. Sach was most difficult, even for someone with the enormous talent and skill of this reknown Musicologist. The material composition and structure of musical instruments has no small effect on the resulting musical patterns. Over many centuries, an accurate retracing of those combinations is an amazing accomplishment. Music is likely to have been a part of human life since the origin of our species, some 250,000 years ago. But the technology to reproduce the recording and playback of sound had not developed until the late 1800's! With that development, the structure of human music changed in a most profound way, creating much of the genres with which, today, we are so familiar. But what existed before that? And how do you accurately present it? Since our offered release here states "2,000 Years Of Music", and yet humanity is 250,000 years old, it is likely that Dr. Sachs found that the trail of accurate representation becomes exceptionally difficult before what we call the "Modern Era" (formerly called "A.D."). Today, music provides immeasurable enjoyment for humanity, and likely many nonhuman species as well. It was the Ancient Music that brought us to, and was the foundation for, the massive changes in genre and instrumentation that was inspired by the Technology of Recorded Music. A Note About The Recording Technology: In the early 1950’s, the invention of Vinyl Records (33 1/3 RPM) was a new analog Mono technology that became more commercially popular than the existing 78 RPM shellac recordings. While these early Monos are Great Treasures, they can playback with what we modern music listeners call "background noise", and an occasional click or pop. Improved mono recording methods later pioneered by Rudy Van Gelder (and others), and then Stereo in late 1950, reduced this noise problem. Our grading evaluations examine the record condition as a result of use after it was manufactured.
