Description: Blast white 1935 GEM Buffalo with the Talbert Repunched D/D mint mark. Gorgeous luster adorns this coin with sparkle. No detracting marks, blast white, great eye-appeal, but with a softer strike typical for the year/mint marriage. Oddly enough, the 1935 was the last of the weak-strike obstacle from worn dies in the later years. While a small amount of die wear can actually enhance luster by giving it a frosty texture, too much erosion can diffuse reflected light yielding an unsatisfying look. We believe that while the strike of this coin is very typical of 1935, it was made with a fresher die found early on in the striking process that gives it a wonderful eye-appeal. Nonetheless, this is truly a beauty! Close magnification discovers some nice coloring around the device edges such as a beautiful aqua blue emerging. Surfaces are original and not cleaned or polished. There are several repunched mint marks for the date, and the identifier for this particular repunch is that of the Talbert repunch. The 1935-D is the second scarcest of all the last four years of the series in mint state. Only four repunched mint marks are known in Mint State, and none higher than a 4.
