Description: PLEASE READ! This is an incredible postcard with significant history. The front shows Reverend Robert E. Chambers and his Chinese assistants in his office at the China Baptist Publication Society in Canton, China. Rev. Robert E Chambers was an American Southern Baptist pioneer in missionary literature work and considered an outstanding leader in Christian literary circles. In 1899, he opened the China-America Baptist Publication Society (美華浸會書局) in the Baptist church in Dongshijiao, Guangzhou, and began to concentrate entirely upon literature ministry. The inscription is dated 9-20-21 and reads "Dear Mother, Remained in Canton 2 days. Too short a time for it is an interesting place. Back in Hongkong now and our schedule is all muddled up arriving to Chinese Revolutionists who are threatening Canton. Love Kenny" Truly an incredible piece of history. NOTE: Normal wear associated with antique postcard.
