This is the first instance in which the work was published in the UK as one volume. Written by French geographer and author, Jacques Élisée Reclus, who was best known for his nineteen-volume work 'Universal Geography'.With an introduction by Professor A. H. Keane. This particular work is comprised of a descriptive history of the oceans of the world, with chapters on specific oceans as well as the different features and species found there.Highly illustrated with twenty-eight coloured maps, collated complete. With more than two hundred additional vignettes throughout. CONDITION In a very smart, green cloth binding. Externally, lovely, with minor shelf wear only. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean, with the odd handling mark. Plate 1 is bound before title page instead on page 8.
