Description: US Civil War Model 1840 Cavalry Sword with Scabbard. The ricasso is marked "Ames Mfg. Co.", "Cabotville", and "1851" and the reverse has "US" over "A.D.K.". The top rim of the pommel has "A.D.K." and "J.W.R.". The grip, guard and pommel are tight. The knuckleguard has a little bend. The grip leather is 90% complete. The twisted wire is 100% complete. The blade is unsharpened, a couple light nicks, has light age spots scattered throughout, and it has an overall curve to it. The scabbard is solid with a few dents/dings, and has been nickeled/chromed at some point (probably for a GAR display). The leather washer is missing. Length of the blade is 36" (1 1/4" wide and 3/8" thick), the sword is 41 3/8", and in the scabbard it is 43 1/16". Only 2550 Ames Cavalry Swords are dated 1851. Check out my other War Items!
